How To Vacuum

To maintain the look, feel, and appearance of your
carpet you’ll need to vacuum on a regular basis. If
you are new to vacuuming, you’ll find the tips below
to help you when it comes to keeping your home clean:
1. Before you start, you should always inspect
the area. Pick up any objects that could cause
your vacuum cleaner to clog up. The smaller objects
are fine, just as long as they will pass through the
vacuum.
2. You should check the vacuum bag to ensure
that is isn’t full already. If it is full, you
should go ahead and change it. A full bag isn’t
going to suck up much dirt, as the power will be
greatly reduced due to the bag taking up a great
deal of storage and limiting the suction.
3. You should always vacuum forwards instead
of going backwards. Going forward will get the
job done quicker and you won’t wear your cord out
near as fast. When going backwards, you also run
the risk of running back over your cord, which is
something you don’t want to do.
4. Be sure that you overlap your strokes
to ensure that you get out all of the dirt and the
residue. You don’t want to miss any of the carpet,
which is why it is important that you overlap your
strokes.
5. You should change your vacuuming
direction on occasion to reduce any type of matting
in your carpet. You can change direction without
any problems. Doing this every time you make a
sweep on the carpet or every other time you vacuum
will be good.
6. On corners, use a damp cloth or a
crevice tool attachment that hooks up to your
vacuum cleaner. This will ensure that you get the
corners and tight areas good, and they don’t
stand out from the rest of the carpet.
7. You can get rid of dust particles and
dirt by waving a vacuum wand under your bed. Doing
so on occasion will ensure that your bedroom
stays clean, and smells clean as well.
For kitty litter on carpets or floors, you should
use a lightweight vacuum cleaner. To get deep
into the fibers of the carpet, you should try
an upright vacuum cleaner with a power brush. Kitty
litter can be a pain in the neck if it gets
crushed in the pile or embedded, which is why
you should get it out as quick as you can.
Give some thought to purchasing a vacuum cleaner
with a rotating brush or combination beater and
brush bar, which will loosen up the dirt in the
carpet and then suck it out. This will beat the
dirt from the fibers and even embedded dirt, which
will leave your carpet clean and smelling great.
Whenever you vacuum, you should always be on the
lookout for straw, thread, and string as it can
trap debris in the vacuum hose and result in a
clog. These types of hazards are also bad for the
agitators as well, as they can clog up the suction
as well, or get tangled up in the agitators and
cause more problems.
If you have pets, you should sprinkle some baking
soda on the carpet before you vacuum. Let it sit
for a little while, then vacuum. The baking soda
is a lot cheaper than carpet fresheners and it
does the same thing – only better.
Vacuuming is very easy to do, and it’s something
that should be done on a regular basis. You don’t
have to be an expert to vacuum, all you have to
do is make an effort. Your carpet will look good
all the time, and your house will stay smelling
great – which is reason enough to grab the vacuum
and take a trip through the house with it.
Create Stress-Free Holidays

Many women stress over holidays and special events, such as their children’s birthday parties or family reunions. It can be hard to find the time it takes to get ready for these events when you are already pressed for time on a normal day! Here are some tips to help you streamline this process:
* Start planning for these events early. If your child’s birthday is in August, it is okay to start planning the celebration in June. That way, you’ll have plenty of time to get things done and you won’t feel rushed when the day draws near.
* When you start the planning process, start with the end date and work backwards. If the party is on the 20th, you’ll want to send the invitations out by the 2nd, so you’ll need to buy them on the 15th of the prior month to make sure you’ll have enough time to prepare them. Use this method to plan each aspect of the party.
* Most stores are packed the week before Christmas. Avoid this shopping rush by purchasing your gifts ahead of time. Start shopping in September and October or avoid the stores all together and shop online.
* If you are hosting a party at your house, don’t waste time cooking all the food yourself. Instead, make it a pot luck and cook only the main entrée; ask your guests to bring a side dish or dessert to pass. If you are going to hold a large event, you may even want to consider having it catered. This doesn’t have to be formal; this can be as simple as getting a large party sub and a few salads from the deli.
* Many times, people will have several small celebrations for one event. For example, a mom-to-be may have a baby shower for her side of the family, another one for her husband’s side of the family, and a third one for her friends. If possible, hold one large shower and invite everyone. This will save you lots of time.
* If you work a lot of hours and simply do not have time to plan a party, consider hiring an event planner. They specialize in this and can take the work off your hands, freeing you up to focus on other things.
* If you don’t want to worry about cleaning up after your guests, rent a space for your party, such as a conference room in a restaurant or an outdoor area in a park. If you want to hold the party in your home, you can always schedule a maid service to come over the day after the party and take care of the clean-up.
Taking Time to Think & Plan Your New Years Goals

With the New Year always comes a desire to make changes, to start fresh. Resolutions are often made and broken before a week or two into the New Year. How can you make and keep your resolutions? Make it a family project. Talk to each other about the changes you would each like to make, as individuals and as a family.
By making lists and talking about it, you will help keep each other on track and encourage one another. Prioritize the list to see which changes are most important and focus on those first. If you try to change too much at once, it will be overwhelming. Accountability can be a great tool in making life changes, however there is a thin line between encouraging each other and nagging. Be sure to always encourage each other in a positive way.
Once you have your list prioritized, it is time to convert the resolutions into goals. Set a date by which you want to accomplish each goal. We all have projects that have been put off for ages. Pick one to start and then pick a date to have it done by. Make a list of all the things you need to do to reach your goal. By making it visual, it is easier to stay on track. Hang a checklist or chart where it can be seen and updated daily.
When it comes to goals for the whole family, make sure everyone has agreed to the same thing. It is impossible to work together if you aren’t all working toward the same thing. If it’s something like simply spending more time together as a family, be sure to take everyone’s schedules into account. Things will come up along the way, so be flexible and work it out as a family.
Even if each person has their own goal to reach, make another goal to help each other keep each personal resolution. For example, if someone has decided to give up junk food, try not to eat it, or at least not in front of them. Of if someone wants to exercise more, even if it’s not your resolution, joining them in their workout sessions not only helps keep them motivated, but helps you get in better shape as well.
By setting up short-term and long-term goals you can monitor your progress toward keeping your New Year’s resolutions. The short-term goals are stepping-stones to the larger prize. Calendars, charts and checklists are all good tools for keeping track of the family’s progress. Compeition is also a good motivator. Have a contest to see who can reach their goal first. Make the prize something that the whole family would want, such as a week off from their chores, or their choice of a special dinner.

Weight Loss & Goal Setting

When it comes to weight loss, most people feel that they could stand to lose a few pounds. No matter how much weight you need to lose, the best way to start is with a plan and a goal in mind. Goal setting breaks the process down into manageable parts.
The first step in goal setting is to decide how much weight you want to lose. BMI (body mass index) charts show what a healthy weight should be depending on age. BMI charts are also available for children up until age twelve.
Once the weight to lose is determined, a program for managing this is considered. The average weight loss is one to two pounds per week. Anything above this is water loss. Remember: the weight was not gained in a day and it will not be lost that way either.
Weight loss programs fail when people set unrealistic goals. If the goals that are set are not realized in a certain time, the person gives up on losing weight altogether. Quitting is all too common during weight loss and contributes to the growing epidemic of obesity experienced in today’s society.
Weight loss involves exercise. Part of losing weight in a healthy manner is getting the heart in shape as well. Cardiovascular health reduces the incidents of heart attack, stroke, hypertension, and diabetes. Cardiovascular exercise, at least three to five days a week for thirty minutes a day, aids in fat loss.
The exercise needs to be one that you will stick with. Decide for yourself what you like to do. Some people like walking, which is the best total body workout for persons of all ages. If you like to ride bicycles or aerobics, go for it. A likable exercise program will keep you motivated.
Eating healthy is the other piece of the weight loss puzzle. Cutting too many calories in an attempt to lose weight faster is unwise. The body will begin to consume muscle for fuel instead of fat. As you age, you lose precious muscle anyway, so losing more through unhealthy weight loss tactics is not good for the body.
Start slowly. If you eat a lot of bread, cut back on the amount each week until you reach the appropriate level. The same goes for fats, meat, sweet treats, and dairy products. In small increments, you will have revamped your eating habits in no time.
Setting weight loss goals is about sensibility and manageability. Enjoy the journey to your final goal weight. Weight loss involves a lifelong process of taking care of the body that you’ve been given by finding new ways to get in shape, eat healthier, and maintain your good habits.
