Progresso Souper You (Review & Giveaway)

March 10, 2010 by Cara

I often make my own soup. But I admit I have a few cans of soup on hand for emergencies. I get so wrapped up in being a mom, wife, and blogger that I skip lunch. Then I get the shakes, get cranky, and cannot perform any of my duties. So instead of grabbing junk, I grab a can of soup.

I recently received samples of Progresso soup courtesy of My Blog Spark. Progresso has 40 soups that are 100 calories or less per serving. I received a nice sampling from them and was anxious to give them a try.

Surprise! Soup from a can that doesn’t taste like soup from a can. I find most canned soups to be salty tasting, but not Progresso. And they are unexpectedly hearty. With real ingredients, fiber and a full serving of vegetables, they fill me up and keep me going.

My favorite is the Light Chicken and Dumplings – it’s yummy, filling and comforting. Hubby’s favorite was Italian Style Meatball with Penne (figures – lol). Each of these is just 80 calories and only 1 point on Weight Watchers.

Overall, the Progresso soups taste pretty good. I wouldn’t say they’re like homemade, but I’d buy them. And I’d recommend them to any mom who get’s too busy to eat lunch. They are tasty, filling and convenient.

Quick Dinner: Banquet Family Entrees (Product Review & Giveaway)

March 3, 2010 by Cara

I’ve mentioned before that I’m not opposed to serving a “meal in a box”. There are days when things just happen and keep me from my regular routine. When dinner time comes around, I’m not prepared and have to scramble. Remember – no matter how much planning you may do, “stuff” happens. So I plan for these days and always have a quick dinner on hand.

family entree turkey and gravy Quick Dinner: Banquet Family Entrees (Product Review & Giveaway)The most recent “meal in a box” we tried came from the freezer – Banquet Family Entrée -Turkey & Gravy. Served on rolls, it was as good as a hot turkey sandwich from the Diner! My boys loved it. And I was happy that dinner was served in minutes, especially after the day I had!

I always have a bag of Banquet Chicken Nuggets in the freezer – after all they are a standard in any household with toddlers or preschoolers. I also keep at least one box of Banquet Skinless Fried Chicken on hand. Gasp! – fried chicken from the freezer? Yes! It’s seriously just as good as my Mom’s!

For over 50 years and crossing several generations, Banquet has created home-style frozen dinner meals for those hectic days when things have been completely crazy – when the answer to the question of “What’s for dinner, mom!?” is “I have no idea!”

From single serve “tv dinners” to chicken pot pies to Crock-Pot Classics, Banquet products are items that every mom should have in their freezer.

Banquet Dinners Quick Dinner: Banquet Family Entrees (Product Review & Giveaway)As a way of saying “Thanks a Million” to their loyal customers over all these years, Banquet is giving away more than $1 million worth of redeemable cash prizes this February through April. Beginning February 8, look for Banquet frozen dinner meals with the “Thanks a Million” logo on the box. Each of these specially-marked packages will contain a special game piece, either one of over 16,000 redeemable cash prizes worth anywhere from $10 to $100,000, or a Banquet coupon. How cool is that!?! (click here for official rules)

And to increase your chances of winning in the “Thanks a Million” campaign, I have two coupons for a FREE Banquet Meal or Family Entree to giveaway to TWO lucky winners!

This giveaway is open from today through Monday, March 8. The winners will be chosen, using Random.org and announced on on my blog as well as via email.

There are several ways to win:

  1. REQUIRED ENTRY: Leave a comment after visiting Banquet and tell me which of their products you would like to add to your dinner time arsenal.

Super Bowl Party + Giveaway

February 2, 2010 by Cara

The year before we got pregnant with Little Dude, Hubby and I had part of our basement finished to make a family room. It’s actually become a “man cave”: large screen TV – Xbox and Wii – surround sound system with really big speakers -  card table – a poster of dogs playing poker.

That same year we hosted our first Super Bowl Party. This will be Super Bowl party #8 for us. Even though I do most of the work preparing for our party,  I must admit I like it just as much as hubby – snack foods, funny commercials and beer.

This year’s menu, which hasn’t changed much over the years, is as follows:

We’ll also be serving some sweets like Rice Krispie Treats and brownies.

As usual, I did most of my shopping for the Big Game at Walmart. Because my Walmart doesn’t have a full grocery store, I did go to my local market for the fresh items. I always shop at Walmart to save big on my groceries.

With Walmart’s low prices, Moms can afford to host a big get-together without the stress of having to cut corners. Walmart’s game-time snacks for as low as $44 includes one package of Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs, one package of Johnsonville Bratwursts, two packages of Great Value Hot Dog Buns, two boxes of T.G.I Friday’s Frozen Appetizers, one Hormel Supreme Party Tray, a 12″ Chocolate Chunk cookie and two boxes of Nabisco Wheat Thins or Triscuit Crackers.

In addition to offering savings on snacks and groceries, Walmart offers full home entertainment installation packages ranging from $99 to $200, guaranteeing your family’s new HDTV set up works perfectly in time for the big game. (Wish there was a Walmart local to us back when we bought the big TV and surround sound system!)

Head to Walmart Game Time for creative ways to get ready for the game, tips on planning your party on a budget and great recipes. I especially like the Pre-Game Hustle game they have to play. And I’m going to try to make the Football Brownies shared on the site.

Now for the giveaway…

I have one $50 Walmart Gift Card to send to one lucky commenter!

Now, instead of the usual ways to win a blog giveaway, I’m going to make this a little fun! Everyone has two chances to win:

  1. Leave a comment with your favorite party recipe and include a link to it if you can.
  2. Leave a comment with your favorite Super Bowl commercial – include a YouTube link if it’s available!

This giveaway is open from today through Saturday, Feb 6. The winner will be chosen, using Random.org and announced on Game Day!

Ends midnight February 6. Winner will be contacted via email for mailing address. Open to US & Canada residents.

I can’t wait to read everyone’s comments!

Get Kids To Hang-Up Their Stuff (Giveaway)

May 13, 2009 by Cara

Getting a toddler to pick-up after themselves is a chore in itself! There are so many times a day a mom can sing the clean-up song or nag to “pick up your toys” before she loses her sanity.

What I’ve done is made it easy for my Little Dude to pick-up after himself. We have bright colored bins on a shelf that holds his toys in the living room. We have a toy box and more shelves in his bedroom. By giving him the tools, he keeps his “stuff” relatively organized and tidy.

But there is one thing that drives me nuts: Each day Little Dude comes home from school, he immediately takes off his backpack and jacket and drops them on the floor. Grrr! He just wont take the time to walk to the coat closet to put them away.

Until now! The lovely people at 3M sent me a basket of their 050 281x300 Get Kids To Hang Up Their Stuff (Giveaway)Command Hooks.

The newest products from 3M Command provide a fun way for kids to get organized without adding more storage bins around the house. They offer Disney-themed hooks such as Disney Princess, Hannah Montana and Cars. Like all Command Adhesive products, they do not damage the walls and can easily be repositioned as needed.

Little Dude was so excited to use his Cars hooks (after all, everything revolves around Lightening McQueen). Ever since I hung the 3M Command Hooks near our kitchen door, he actually likes to hang his jacket and backpack.

I am so excited to NOT trip over his stuff lying on the kitchen floor. And the added bonus is that we always know where his jacket is!

The new kid-friendly hooks retail for $8.97 – $10.49 at your local store. Believe me – they are well worth it! Actually, I’m wondering if they have big-boy designs to get Hubby to pick-up after himself…

Oh, did I mention that 3M sent me a basket of these? Well, included in that basket are two Disney Princess Command Hooks. Being that this house is run on testosterone, I have no use for them. So I’m giving them away!

Mother’s Day Home Depot Gift Card Giveaway

May 4, 2009 by Cara

Little Dude at Home DepotThis past Saturday, Little Dude went to the Home Depot Kids Clinic. He made a ’secret’ Mother’s Day present for me! I already know what it is since he can’t keep a secret, but I still can’t wait to open it!

Hubby asked what I wanted for Mother’s Day. I told him I wanted a Nintendo Wii and the Fit Bundle. Well because of our budget, I’m sure that’s not what I’m getting. That’s OK – we will do the usual: trip to the Home Depot Garden Center where I get to pick whatever I want; then we come home and he acts as my hired labor for the day helping  me with the garden.

Each year I’ve picked a nice perennial bush: azelia, scottish broom, butterfly bush. This year I might go for another butterfly bush – Little Dude loves seeing the butterflys and pretty colored birds they attract.

Speaking of Home Depot, I have a giveaway!!

I have one $50 Gift Card to give to a random commenter.

Thrifty Thursday + Giveaway

February 5, 2009 by Cara

thriftythursday Thrifty Thursday + GiveawayPlan for left-overs.

Each time I sit to do my menu for the week, I do my best to plan for leftovers. These make perfect home-made microwave dinners – or lunches in my hubby’s case.

He works the night shift which means there is no other option than to bring lunch with him. So by planning to have left-overs, he has a nice selection of microwavable meals right in the fridge and freezer.

I simply put a serving of the dinner, including side dishes, straight into a Rubbermaid container and pop it into the freezer. He has his own shelf of meals so he can just grab and go.  Easy and cheap – just the way I like it!

And speaking of Rubbermaid, my Twitter pal Jim (@rubbermaid) sent me a little something to give away! It’s the Rubbermaid Premiere food-storage containers – a 20 piece set! To enter, all you have to do is leave your Thrifty Thursday Tip in a comment! How easy is that?!?!?

For more entries you can share this post with your friends and followers by Twittering or including a link on your blog. Just come-on back and leave another comment with proof :)

Comments for this post will be close at 10pm Eastern time on Tuesday, February 10th and the winner will be announced.

Oh, and if you’re looking for organizing ideas, information or inspiration, head on over to the Rubbermaid blog – Adventures In Organizing. Jim and his crew do a fantastic job!
