Guest Blogger: Where would I be without routine?

Where would I be without routine? I have routines for my routines. When I start talking to people and explaining to the daily routine I follow they think I am nuts. But I am not nuts. I am only nuts when I fall out of my routine. I have a daily routine, a weekly routine, a monthly routine and even a quarterly routine. And before you say I am crazy let me tell you how well my house runs with the routine.

My daily routine starts an hour before the kids get up in the morning and ends two hours after the kids go to bed at night. I follow a certain routine every day, week, month and quarter. With having this routine my kids have learned responsibility. They know mom follows a certain routine so they follow a certain routine. They know exactly what is going on each morning and they know what time we are going to be eating supper at night. The best part is that now my kids have routines that follow my routines.

I remember what my house looked like before I got addicted to routines and organization. I look back and thing how did we make it without routine. My house was never clean and I felt like I lived in total chaos. I and my children never knew if we were coming or going. Let me give you a quick example. My two daughters and I went to Arizona and spent a week with my Mom in her house. There was no routine in that house. No certain time they ate. No certain things they did. No morning routine. No nothing – we just went by the seat of our pants and everything was a last minute decisions. I could not handle it I felt like I was lost. My girls did not know what to do. And by the end of the trip We were crabby and unhappy. After being home for just one day and back in the swing of our own routine my family and I were back to our happy selves.

It is so simple to start a daily routine start out small and then every couple day add something new that you want to continue to do. Think of things you want to do weekly and start making it a habit. I have heard it takes 21-30 days to form a habit. So do you have 21 days to form that habit and get your routine going?
