Mommy Community Blog Road Trip Day 1

BT Day1 1 Mommy Community Blog Road Trip Day 1

It’s day one of the Blog Road Trip. Time for an introduction.

I’m Cara, a work-at-home-mom with one son, aka “Little Dude”, and 4 critters. Oh and there’s also my hubby, aka “Big Dude”.

We live in Bloomingdale, a very small town in Northern NJ. So small, that we only have one traffic light. So small that we have to go to another town for High School. So small that I can’t go anywhere without running into someone I know. And everyone knows Little Dude! He’s as popular as the mayor (probably because he’s just so darn cute!).

About Me

I’m a cheater homemaker”. Meaning, if there is an easier way to clean, organize, cook or decorate I’ll find it! I used to be domestically challenged – living in chaos and confusion and clutter. But I got my act together 6 years ago, and now help others do it too! I’m also addicted to coupons and freebies.

I’m a very active volunteer for The March of Dimes, The ASPCA and our town library. My hobbies include reading (when Little Dude and Big Dude leave me alone!), gardening (my front garden beds are the talk of the block) and decorating (I’m always rearranging furniture and changing accessories).

About Bloomingdale, NJ

I grew up here in Bloomingdale, NJ and actually bought a house that I trick-or-treated at as a kid! I knew my neighbors before I ever moved in!

Bloomingdale started out as a farm town, but is now a typical suburb. Most of the farm land was developed into housing in the late 1800’s for the Iron forge and then for the Baby Boomers after WWII. I actually live in a charming little Cape Cod built in 1954.

Just a few quick points about Bloomingdale:

  • We’re in a perfect location geographically! Only 40 minutes from New York City, about a half-hour from a ski resort and only 1 hour from the shore.
  • We have all the necessities: grocery store, post office, pharmacy, restaurants, and a Dunkin Donuts.
  • Bloomingdale is 9 square miles big, but only 4 is developed: the rest is state forest land.

While Bloomingdale is relatively young (just under 100 years old) it has some historic value such as our Methodist church, grammar school (built in 1884) and Federal Hill – which was the site of the 1781 Pompton Mutiny involving George Washington (how cool!).

So that’s me and my town. Tell me about yourself and leave a comment! And head on over to MommyCommunity to join the fun!
