Tackle It Tuesday – The Coat Closet

I haven’t posted a Tackle It Tuesday in a while. But since I’ve been shoving the whole “You can do it in 15 minutes” down your throat, I figured I’d post an example to prove that YOU CAN.
Here is the before shot of my coat closet. There was way too many coats in the closet, and some were out grown. A 12 month sized jacket was hanging up – my son is 2 years old now. And look at that floor!
So I grabbed 2 laundry baskets and set the timer for 15 minutes. I pulled everything out and put back only what we need in the coat closet. Anything that needed to go elsewhere went into the laundry baskets.
Some interesting items removed: arm protectors for a couch I don’t own anymore, sandals (hello it’s February!), a dress I haven’t worn in 5 years, and 3 gloves without their mates.
I only put back what needs to be accessible on the ground floor – I have another closet in , the upstairs hallway that I put the other items in. Only jackets and coats that fit and will be worn are here. Plus there is room for guest coats. I put a container on the shelf with hats, gloves and scarves that we will wear (all matching). Only our snow boots are on the floor – and I FINALLY have a place to keep my vacuum. Bonus – I have an empty shelf up top! Not sure what I will store there, but I will use that valuable storage space. BTW, the iron and it’s accessories remain in the closet because I have the nifty-est little on-the-door ironing board. So convenient!

Seriously this only took me 15 minutes. Then another 15 minutes to empty the laundry baskets. (Laundry baskets are one of my favorite tools to use when cleaning and de-cluttering!) So, what can you do in 15 minutes?

Good tackle. Amazing it only took 15 minutes (why do we put it off?)
MY tackle is on my laundry room. I’m posting our shoe solution on tomorrows Works for me Wed.
Whew! You did it! Wow…
Now you are inspiring me to tackle some of my closet issues.
I’ve been re-training my husband to ONLY put coats he wears in our small coat closet. Everything else can go in our HUGE walk-in closet in the bedroom. Re-training him is a tackle in itself! (and takes much longer than 15 minutes)
What a great tackle. So often I put things off that end up only taking 15 minutes or so.
Come check out my first Tackle it Tuesday!
Wow. Looks awesome. You did a great job. Pluse you are totally inspiring.
Great job! I did a closet tackle last week (in my boys’ room), but this week our tackle was putting in bunk beds
Wow amazing!! Well done. LOL at the dress being in there when you haven’t worn it in so long.
Looks great! Congrats on getting it done so fast! I like to do things in 15-minute bites, too. It’s amazing how much you can accomplish that way. ;o)
i love knocking things out in 15 minutes. nice job.
