Episode #14 - Interview with author Wendy Walker

By CaraM • Apr 28th, 2008 • Category: Podcast

This episode I get on my soap box for a few minutes and ‘rant’ about volunteering. But then, I talk with Wendy Walker, author of the book “Four Wives” (available at www.wendywalkerbooks.com). We discuss her inspiration for the book, chat about ‘opt-out’ moms, and how we sometimes feel despair. I also asked Wendy the important question - how did she find the time to write a book?

  1. I’m in the verge of writing my bilingual book in the area of my profession of dance. I’m a college dance professor and I’m a mother of two toddlers. I didn’t know how to find the time to make this book idea happen. This interview with Wendy really showed me how she did it and inspired me. This is far one of the best podcast show I’ve heard so far. My favorite part is when Wendy felt to say “no” to remodeling her house and focus on her writing especially in her car on the parking lot. Treasuring time as mentioned “Scavenger hunt your time”. Letting go of perfectionism and prioritize. Brilliant ideas. Thank you so much.

  2. I loved hearing about Wendy writing in her van. I have kids that are older than nursery school, but they are very active in other after school activities. I have to agree that I have accomplished more while sitting in my van than I could ever do if I went back home. I feel better not burning the gasoline and knowing that I can have some quiet productive time to myself while my kids are at practice or lessons. I just need to be organized and get the items I need, whether it is a fully-charged laptop or my scissors and coupon holder with grocery ads for meal planning. Great show!

  3. I really enjoyed this podcast, Cara. Wendy really touched a nerve when I looked back at those first days of not working and being a mum how we try to perfect our new role when we’re just easing on into it. I remember those days. Now I’m much more comfortable with it but we women need supporting at the beginning it’s a big life change. Thanks for the inspiration.

  4. This podcast was full of useful information. I especially enjoyed listening to Wendy talk about how she found time to write a book. I dream of writing a book, but I assumed that I did not have the time for such an endeavor. Now I can see, it really is all about priorities. Thanks for such a great podcast!
